ANZAC Day 2021 - We Will Remember Them.

The Oakleigh Carnegie RSL ANZAC Commemorative Service was this year held in our Memorial Hall under the CovidSafe Public Events program.

Doug Pendergast, President Oakleigh Carnegie RSL, thanked all who attended and especially those who participated and helped make this event very special.

“We thank Elyse Pretty, Sacred Heart Girls College, for reciting the poem “In Flanders Field”, Zoe Keefe, Principal Cornet Player Oakleigh Brass, the Australian Great War Association, Simon Blackshaw, Moorabbin Pipe Band, Flag Bearers Neil Smith and David Thompson, Oakleigh Brass who played prior to the service starting, South Oakleigh Girl Guides who assisted with the wreath presentation and Oakleigh Carnegie RSL committee and members for their help in setting up for the service.”

“We were also very grateful to Monash Council who supported the service by live streaming the Service into the Members Lounge and to our Facebook page.”

“For some years now, the Rotary Club of Oakleigh, Clayton and Huntingdale have sponsored our ANZAC Day events and we remain grateful for their continued support. Their generous support ensures that any donations on the day are dedicated to providing funds to support our veterans and their families - our principle priority as an RSL Sub Branch.”

“We look forward to our State and Nation progressing the vaccination program for Covid so that we can plan for our future events at the Cenotaph. In particular, we look forward to holding a Dawn Service for ANZAC 2022 at the Cenotaph followed by a number of events to recognise and celebrate the Centenary of the establishment of our building in Oakleigh.”
