We Will Remember Them

Today the 11th November 2020 - Remembrance Day, it was not possible to hold a public service at the Oakleigh Cenotaph to commemorate this important day.

Doug Pendergast, President Oakleigh Carnegie RSL , said that despite the inability to hold a public service, he ensured that a wreath was layed at the Oakleigh Cenotaph on behalf of the club committee and its members.

“At 11 am on the 11th day of the 11 month each year, we gather to mark the end of World War 1. It is a day that we remember and honour all the men and women who served in World War 1  - and particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice - and did not return home.  We also remember and honour Australian men and women who served, and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.”

“The Oakleigh Carnegie RSL was officially opened in 1922 following returning WW1 veterans, their families and the local community’s dedication and commitment over a number of years to provide a place for veterans to come together.”

“At the time of the opening of building, the Great War Roll of Honour was placed in the foyer and we are proud that this Roll of Honour was fully upgraded in 2015 and remains in our foyer.”
